Built to Last

Trusted by real craftsmen

This 5-piece Damascus kitchen knife set is built around one consistent size, all five knives run 9 inches overall, with a 4.5-inch blade and 4.5-inch handle on every knife in the set. Five distinct blade profiles cover slicing, bread cutting, carving, trimming, and detail work. Every blade is forged from layered Damascus steel and fitted with black handles and steel bolsters on full tang construction. A leather roll and honing rod are included.

The Blades

All five blades are forged from layered 1095 high-carbon steel and 15N20 nickel alloy. The two steels are stacked, heated, and hammer-welded into a single solid billet. Repeated folding strengthens the grain structure and bonds the layers permanently. Acid etching after forging reveals the Damascus surface pattern, flowing contrast lines across each blade. Every knife carries a slightly different formation from the forging process.

Heat treatment brings each blade to 58–60 HRC. That hardness holds a sharp working edge through daily kitchen use without chipping under regular cutting load.

What Each Knife Does

The chef's knife is the primary daily prep blade at 4.5 inches. It handles slicing proteins, breaking down vegetables, mincing herbs, and the bulk of general kitchen tasks. The curved belly suits both rocking and push cuts.

The bread knife carries a serrated edge that cuts cleanly through crusty loaves and soft interiors without crushing the structure. It also handles tomatoes, citrus, and soft desserts cleanly.

The slicing knife is built for carving and portioning. Its narrow 4.5-inch blade pulls cleanly through roasts and large proteins in smooth strokes, with less drag, cleaner slice faces, and more consistent portions.

The utility knife handles mid-size prep tasks — trimming fat, portioning smaller cuts, and managing detail work where the chef knife is too wide for comfortable control.

The paring knife handles the most precise work in the set. Peeling, scoring, trimming around bones, and close-hand detail cutting all suit the compact 4.5-inch blade profile.

Handle Material

Looking at the image, each handle is fitted in a smooth black material with white pin rivets and a distinctive red accent spacer between the handle and steel bolster. The black handle surface is ergonomically shaped — wider at the rear and tapering toward the bolster — giving a secure full palm grip during active prep. The red spacer adds a sharp color accent that sets this set apart visually from other black handle configurations in the collection.

The steel bolster sits flush at the blade-to-handle junction on every knife. It adds forward balance weight and acts as a natural finger guard during chopping strokes.

The Leather Roll and Honing Rod

The leather roll holds all five knives securely in individual blade pockets. It rolls tight and ties closed for safe transport during outdoor cooking, catering work, and professional kitchen travel. The included honing rod maintains the blade edge between full whetstone sessions — realigning the edge after heavy use without removing steel. Together, the roll and rod make the set fully self-contained from day one.

Full Tang Construction

Every knife is full tang. The blade steel runs the complete 9-inch length from tip to handle end, pinned through the black handle material for permanent structural integrity. Full tang eliminates blade flex at the junction and distributes weight evenly across the full knife length.

FAQs

How is this set different from other 5-piece Damascus sets in this collection?

This is the only 5-piece set where all five knives run the same 9-inch overall length. Other 5-piece sets vary in blade size across the configuration. The uniform size and red spacer accent handle are unique to this set.

Why do all five knives share the same overall length?

Uniform sizing gives consistent balance and handling feel across every blade in the set. Cooks who switch frequently between blade types benefit from a consistent weight and length rather than adjusting between different sizes.

What does the honing rod do?

A honing rod realigns the blade edge after heavy use without removing steel. It keeps each knife performing between full whetstone sharpenings and extends the time between full sharpening sessions.

What is the red spacer between the handle and bolster?

The red spacer seals the junction between the black handle material and the steel bolster and adds a distinctive color accent. It is a structural and decorative detail unique to this set.

How should this set be stored?

Roll the knives into the leather roll after each use and store in a dry location. Never store loose in a drawer as blade contact dulls the edge and risks chipping the Damascus pattern.

Product Care for JW SteelCrafts Hand-Forged Products

To ensure the longevity and beauty of your hand-forged JW SteelCrafts products, follow these essential care instructions:

  1. Regular Cleaning
Wipe your knives, swords, axes, and rings with a soft cloth to remove dust and debris. For deeper cleaning, use a mild soap solution and a non-abrasive cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasives that could damage the steel’s finish.
  2. Dry Thoroughly
After cleaning, ensure your product is completely dried. This helps prevent water spots, rust, or corrosion, particularly on blades and steel surfaces exposed to moisture.
  3. Proper Storage
Store your hand-forged products in a dry, cool place to prevent oxidation or rust. For long-term storage, consider applying a thin layer of oil (e.g., mineral oil or gun oil) to the metal surfaces, or using a rust inhibitor. When storing knives and swords, keep them in protective sheaths or pouches to prevent contact with other materials.
  4. Avoid Impact
While designed for strength and durability, avoid dropping or striking your steel products against hard surfaces. This can cause damage to the blade, edge, or overall integrity of the piece.
  5. Edge Maintenance (For Knives & Swords)
Periodically sharpen the blades to maintain their cutting edge. Use a proper sharpening stone or take your product to a professional for maintenance. Always sharpen in the correct direction to preserve the blade’s integrity.
  6. Routine Inspection
Regularly inspect your products for any signs of wear, rust, or damage. If you notice any issues, reach out to us for maintenance, restoration, or repair services.

By following these care instructions, your JW SteelCrafts products will retain their craftsmanship, functionality, and beauty for years to come.
